Daniel has been involved in the Construction and Development industry in Australia for more than 20 years and has worked on projects in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

He commenced his legal career at Allen Allen and Hemsley in the Construction and Arbitration Group led by John Dorter.  He later moved to the Construction and Engineering Group of Colin Biggers and Paisley led by Adrian Bellemore.

During his time at Allens, Daniel was involved in litigation, Court references and arbitrations including acting for Kinhill Engineers, the Project Manager on the first extensions to the International Terminal at Sydney Airport, Leighton Contractors, the Builder of the Australian Federal Police Headquarters and for the Contractor (Dueeasy P/L) in a Supreme Court appeal from an arbitrator's award.

At Colin Biggers & Paisley, Daniel continued his litigation, arbitration role acting for insurers in respect of various construction matters.  These included a concrete rill tower at Railton in Tasmania.  He also acted for GEC Alsthom in relation to an electricity co-generation plant at Sunshine in Melbourne.

In October 1994, Daniel was a founding partner in Leacock and Massey, a specialist construction law practice.  Clients included Baulderstone Hornibrook, the University of Newcastle, Austress Freyssinet, the Master Builders Association of NSW and a range of small and medium sized contractors and building industry professionals. The focus of Daniel's practice remained litigation and alternative dispute resolution.

Leacock and Massey merged with Norton Smith & Co in 1998 and then with Coudert Brothers LLP in 1999.  Throughout the Norton Smith/Coudert merger Daniel continued his litigation, ADR practice.  He was also able to develop his practice to include contract drafting in the construction and development industry when he took on the drafting of the construction contracts for the development and restoration of Walsh Bay for the Mirvac/Transfield joint venture.

In July 2001, Daniel and Marion Bailey left Coudert Brothers and set up MasseyBailey Solicitors and Consultants.  Daniel's focus has expanded in the Contract drafting and contract administration area and he has developed a suite of contracts that can be tailored to the specific requirements of the client project.  He has taken on a corporate advisory role to a number of clients as well as assisting clients in the ongoing administration of their contracts.

In November 2010, Daniel set up in sole practice in order to focus on a more active role as the mediator, adjudicator, arbitrator, while continuing his contract drafting, dispute resolution and advice roles for his clients.
